For Immediate Release: Breast enhancement surgery has become widespread in use. Cosmetic procedures have become more safe, and available to the mainstream public.

Plastic surgery is on the news on a regular basis. It seems like every time we turn around there is a celebrity or other famous person having some sort of cosmetic procedure performed. This is such a common occurrence that, as a society, we have become jaded to people undergoing surgical enhancement. Plastic surgery has been in existence for well over a hundred years, and it shows no signs of diminishing. In fact, the procedures are growing in number every year. Among the most popular procedures are breast enhancement surgeries, such as breast augmentation. At one time, this procedure was pretty much in the realm of film actresses who thought that large breasts might advance their career. Today it is commonplace with women from every walk of life.

Speaking with Dr. Patrick Hsu, chief of plastic, cosmetic and reconstruction surgery at Memorial Plastic Surgery in Houston, Texas, the doctor stated, “ there are a few reasons why breast enhancement procedures have become so popular, the primary one is that these types of surgeries have seen advances in safety, as well as realistic and natural looking results.” Dr. Hsu goes on to say, “ It isn’t so much about dramatic enlargements in bust size as it is about proportion, looking good in clothes.” And then there is the issue of self-esteem. According to Dr. Hsu, a large number of women who undergo some type of breast enhancement procedure report that they receive a boost to their self-confidence, almost as a by-product of the surgery. Being happy with your appearance translates to feeling good emotionally.

At one time, silicone was essentially the only material used in breast augmentation. There were some negative issues associated with the use of silicone. Saline implants have been in use since the sixties, but really came into their own in the 1990’s due to the blow back from the silicone concerns. At that time, the FDA had restricted the use of silicone. In recent years, silicone implants have been improved, and leakage isn’t as much of an issue. In fact, silicone implants are now FDA approved.

Another factor involved in the strides that have bee made in breast enhancement procedures can be credited to time on the water. It is a matter of old-fashioned experience. The bulk of modern cosmetic surgical procedures has been in practice for decades or longer, and over time the surgeons have improved techniques, anesthesia, and reduced recovery time. While relatively expensive, most procedures are in reach of the average income. That, combined with the safety advancements and the quicker recovery times, makes cosmetic procedures appealing.
