As almost 70% of all Americans use the internet - It's one key element of today's marketing strategies to be present wherever people look for services and companies online. Ten years ago it might have been sufficent to get your business listed in the right YellowPages book - today you have to do more. You have to think - Internet

HowTo Get Listed – Updated - Deleted

So how do I submit my Business to Local Search Engines, Online Yellow Pages and Local Social Networks? And how do I update or correct wrong entries? - Sometimes this isn't easy to figure out!- For some sites you can do that online, through an online interface, but in other cases you will need to contact the Core Data Provider of the site in question.

So I've started to build this open list to gather information on where to go to submit & modify or update business-listings on Internet Yellow Pages(IYP) companies like Yellowpages.com, Local Search Engines like Yahoo! Local Search and Social Local Sites like Yelp.com or Qype. Covering the USA , and central Europe with France, United Kingdom and Germany at this point...

In most of the cases these contacts are valid as well if you need to ask for a deletion or have a request an update for a outdated listing. The time till the changes take effect vary from web site to web site, provider to provider and range from instantly live to several weeks ... at least that's all better than to wait for the next book to be published next YEAR.

Reputation Management – What the Internet tells People about my Business

There is way more to reputation management on the web but here some of it in brief - Since more and more Sites like Yahoo! Local Search, Yelp.com, Insiderpages.com etc. allow their users to comment rate and review businesses, its getting very important that you – as a business owner – monitor this. Simply put you should at least search for your company name and your company name combined with it's location in the major web search engines and local search engines every couple of weeks. (e.g. business name: plumbertomi, business location: plumbergoldcity You would search for plumbertomi in plumbergoldcity and look at the first couple of pages in the results on Yahoo! MSN and Ask.)

This way you can keep track of what the web tells people about your business or your company. It's always good to have a head start as compared to find that there was a wrong image, a wrong phone number, a wrong e-mail address or URL in your business profile. You might just loose out on business opportunities. Or e.g. upset a customer with wrong information about your opening hours. So I had to remove mentioning and logo (due to the same reason there is a "hole" in the page header).
