Why do home owners/business owners neglect their heating and cooling system?

With the comfort system out of sight, usually in the basement or on the roof, we tend to forget about taking care of it. Not taking care of the comfort system, reduces it’s efficiency and life expectancy.

Most people do not realize their home heating system operates approximately 3,300 hours per year. To put this “run time” in perspective, a car driven for the same 3,300 hours at 65 miles per hour would travel 214,500 miles. No one would consider such a journey without arranging for oil changes, lubrication, and routine tune-ups along the way to assure the efficiency, safety and reliability of the vehicle.

The heating systems is the second most used appliance in our homes and businesses with the refrigerator being the first. Both appliances take care of us 24 hours a day. We go in and out of the refrigerator daily. We do nothing with the heating system. So we feel we get more use out of something that we touch virus the comfort that we feel. Therefore, we have a tenancy to neglect the things we don’t physically use.

According to the U.S. Department of Energy, 43% of your utility bill goes for heating and cooling. Maintaining your furnace will eliminate part of your gas bill and will also help your furnace to last years longer, and may in fact prevent the need for costly repairs. Of all the enemies of your utility bill, dirt ranks number one. Every aspect of the furnace may collect it, from blower, to filter to motor and every aspect of it needs to be cleaned to keep your furnace well tuned and functioning efficiently.
